Village Mob (2)

Butcher, Baker and Candlestick maker?
The remaining seven figures took only a couple of hours to finish and varnish (which left me with time to to spare, to spend working on four of  my terrain boards).
First up are the three figures in the photograph on the right, each having only a minimal amount of conversion.
The leftmost chap is more or less the "standard" figure (I think he's had his head altered slightly) -
Rear(ish) view
Notice the puny dagger in this right hand, whilst the chap on the right has had it made a little more  substantial, (as has the chap in the photograph below). A slight bending of their arms produced a little variation. I was initially a little perplex as to their clothing until I realised that they were all sporting aprons!

Next up are two who have had little conversion work, just their daggers.
One has been 'improved' from the six-inch nail that it appeared to be, whilst the other has had it removed completely (he's obviously a fisticuffs type of guy).
Rear view (almost becoming obligatory)
Wood-Choppers in their spare time ?
The third set of figures have had nothing done to them conversion-wise.  I couldn't think of a way of making them even slightly different from the original sculpts.
Even filing on of their hats down to make a bare-headed figure was out of the question as their facial details are almost none-existent (at least to my failing eyesight). Nevertheless, I do think that the pair are good additions to the group, they're in a quite dynamic pose.

Also useful as part-time locksmiths
To finish off, here's the whole group:
Rushing out the church to riot...
...and rushing back in to hide.
That's nearly all of my purchase from June, painted up now, just the pack of the eight villager figures from Colonel Bill's to finish off, hopefully by next week, but I'll also be continuing to work on my terrain boards for both my Pirate and Jimland projects (though using them in a zombie setting too isn't entirely off the cards).

That's it then for yet another week, thanks for taking the time to visit and as always your comments are both welcomed and appreciated, whether good bad or indifferent.

  1. Well, I think, taking inspiration from that last photo, the mob is storming the church as there's obviously someone inside who needs guillotining or a stake through the heart (take your pick!). Either that, or Quasimodo's in town on his Summer holidays

    1. Thanks Roy, the "stroming of the Church", doesn't have quite the same ring to it as "the Storming of the Bastille" does it ?

  3. The "reverse rush" is worthy of the Blog-Academy Solid Gold Pirate Chest Award, Zab. Great job.

    1. Thansk Jay (I think), if they even raise a partial smile then my work here is done.

  4. They look great Joe. As for the converting/modding the Axe wielders I can only think of upturning the front of the hat perhaps?

    1. Thanks Brummie, I had thought of that but as it wold reveal more of their lack of facial detail I decided not to. The other alternative was to change the weapon, but I felt that that too was beyond my abilitites.

    1. Thanks Iaian, other than their faces the axe wielders are two of the more dynamic sculpts.

    1. Thanks Micahel, it's only fair that I inflict a group shot too, as I'm always asking for the same.

  7. Well the village mod does look entirely ready to storm Draculas castle. Well maybe a few more torches but if they go in the daylight.....

    1. Haha, I'll leave the flaming torch-wielding village types to their stroming of Frankenstein;s Castle - we'll have street-lamps (maybe).

    1. Thanks dGG; aren't all the Governors in the Caribbean during the pirate era corrupt (and have a beautiful daughter) ?

    1. Thanks HW, I like them though a few more variations wouldn't have come amiss.

  10. Grand job on the mob Joe - that last photo, "Disorder at the entrance to the convention, when the miniatures learned there was a free wargamer for the first few through the door!"
I reckon the colour variation you've given them hides the similar poses in the group. Top job!

    1. Thanks WA, I think I've seen that type of crush at a couple of wargame shows. A little conversion here and there and of course the varying coloured paint-jobs all help to hide how few poses there are

    1. Thanks Ptr, I can see these being useful both as 'extras' and as combatants too; you've reminded me that I really do need to build a small town

  12. Joe, I was working the Colonel Bill's trade stand today and took particular notice of the EMP display model of the Carry On Up The Jungle figure, which we couldn't decide what he was holding.

Spectacles. I would put money on them being that. Although, to be honesty, looking at the painted example I'm still not certain that's what is meant to be sculpt on.

If you're at Gateshead on Saturday 2nd September, I should be working the Colonel Bill's stand.
