Welcome to my blog, the story of my continuing journey into the World of Zombie Wargames.

Zombicide Humans

Another box of Bryan's (Vampifan's) figures had the correct labellling, inside was a collection of painted and named figures, that I believe are from the board game Zombicide. They were loose in the box, but I've put them into foam, gleaned from many of the empty Star Wars (and other) boxes. I suspect that they're not varnished either and required a bit of protection imho. Once more these are some of Bryans best work that I've seen.
Here's the photographs:
All the figures in their protective foam.
The skater waitress is a bit skewed
The two girls on the left looked very similar (more later)
Interesting figures - Dirty Harry maybe on the left ?
Another well armed group
I doubt I'd be using a flamethrower in a zombie apocalypse!
The poses are a bit hit and miss imho
Chainsaws ! In a zombie apocalypse ? I don't think so !
Holding guns in the air is a sure way to tire your arms
Yet another flamethrower and another wonky character
"It's dah Bishop !" (Now, where's Bycycle repair man? - Ed.)
Some interesting characters here
A couple of figures here that wouldn't look out of place in the Wild West
I mentioned previously that the figures have names on their bases, there were two pairs of figures that looked identical and had identical names. Why ? I haven't a clue...
Amy Goddard(s) on the left and two Wanda Jane Venturas
The two pairs of figures, Amys on the left and Wandas on the right
I know next to nothing about Zombcide, save that it was very popular  when it first came out. The well -proportioned and sculpted figures were (imho) a boost to the games popularity.

That's all I've got for this week, the tenth annivesary of my blog. Next week, sadly,  I'm away at a funeral in the deep south, but I will try and prepare a blog before then, to be posted the day before the funeral.
In other news, I've still not attempted any hobby work of my own, my painting area and gaming table are still  a mess with little enthusiasm on my part to do anything about it.
I did intend to stop posting my blog about now, but will continue to post about many of the rescued items I have from Bryan's collection and, in time, what I intend to do with them all.

I've managed to catch up on my commenting on others' blogs after some difficulty with blogger not putting up my reading list for a few days , but it seems to be fixed now.

That's it then for this week, thanks for taking the time to visit and as ever your comments are both welcomed and truly appreciated.

  1. A mighty fine collection Bryan had, from what I understand in Zombicide each character, also had a infected version, which came into play as the game progressed and characters got infected.
Sorry to hear about the funeral, and I'm sure we would all understand if you didn't post next week Joe, I do hope your hobby enthusiasm returns.
I had a weird email this week claiming to be from Bryan, on closer inspection it seems some unscrupulous person is using his name to send out spam mail and infectious attachments, there is no depths some people will sink to !

    1. Thanks Dave, I did recall the surviours all had their zombified counterpart, but never found any!
It really doesn;t surprise me at the depths some despicable peope will go to.

  2. What a tremendous trip down memory lane with those Zombicide miniatures, Joe. I know Bryan had a cracking time painting them, as we exchanged emails about some of them - Bryan even sent me over some of the spare statistic cards for a few of them when I mentioned I had bought a few as loose figures. Terrific times.

Please do keep up the good work in rescuing Bryan's stuff and posting about it. Like Dave, I have noted some of his Judge Dredd minis are appearing on Ebay - (The £80 price tag on Judge Harry Heston is outrageous imho) - so I'm constantly keeping me eye out for any of the Judge figures he named after fellow bloggers. :-)

    1. Thanks Blaxx, after I get a record of Bryan's collection that I have I will decide how to spread these around his many fans.
The Judge Dread book may have gone in a bundle of his 2000Ad comic collection and several dozen Judge Dredd comic books too, all organised by his brother Michael.

  4. Amazing collection Joe. There's always a Creepy-Looking Clown in Horror!
Sorry to read that you're enthusiasm is lacking - I know what you mean. Something will come along and get your Gaming mood back.

    1. Thanks MJT, it's been the same for several years now with my lack of nthusiasm and general lethargy, but something will spark me into action (hpefully). It always happens around this time of year too.
The clown is my favourite - I'll be keeping him !

  5. My very first of soon to have been many Kickstarters. For plastic figures they have fantastic details. Unfortunately the curse of the single point of contact on a base for these figures aka 'Wanda' the rollerskating waitress can have skewing or angling occur. As for multiple figures of the 'original' figures, they came out with a set of 'veteran' figures for them...I guess after slogging through many scenarios, they became much tougher & wanted figures to show that. Yes, they also created zombivore versions of all the characters too. It was an interesting idea that I took further. When a character succumbed to the zombies, they would become bitten & be a zombivore, then each game they would have a chance to become another of the horde. What I did was made it that once they 'turned' fully, I added a card to the zombie deck with that characters name & the 'feral' version of said zombie would arrive with all its previous gear & now shoot or slice away at the living with better stats. If the players were able to take this version down, it would be the last time it would show in the campaign & they party would finally get the loot from them.

    1. THanks Terry, I've only ever gone for one kickstarter tht was sadly cancelled, before it even got off the ground.
I was far too late for the Zombicide one too and the game didn't really inspire me, thogh it did look fun.
The figure are great but soft plastic will always warp, - shame.
When one of my characters turned, I just replace them with the nearest zed I had ot hand, but I do have a figure for myself and its zombified version too. I have several Megaminis (iirc) sets too that have zombie versions of figures in their set. It's a great idea, but a bit of a pian when gaming tbh.

  6. Hello my friend!Nice report and I liked the figures.Sad to read that you dont feel any inspiration.I feel a lot of inspiration but I dont have any time left to realize any of my plans. My parental leave has taken almost all of my time when I am awake but it has also been a fantastic time to see my children grow up every day.I keep my fingers crossed that you soon feel the same inspiration as me.

    1. Thanks Ptr, there's quite a few more of Bryan's figures to come in the future. I often get into a funk about the hobby but there's always something that gets nme going again. I have all the time in the world, but none of the energy to do anything, unlike yourself. Enjoy your time with your family, but try and find an hour or so for just yourself - it's very rewarding having a family, but don;t forget yourself and your spouse need their time too.

  8. Great collection of zombiecide figures, really nicely finished, you need a nice big terrain project to get things going again, they always turn out really well!

    1. Thanks Iain, the figures were amongst some of Bryan's best. My own woes atm will sort themselves out I'm sure, but storage is now a big problem and I doubt I can start any new large project, terrain-wise,

    1. Thanks Matt, there are quite a few recognisable celebs amongst them and as for chainsaws, unless you've owned one, tried to use one etc. you'll never know the list of reasons why they're a rubbish weapon in an apocalyse or maybe it's just me!

    1. Thanks Ivor, from my pov it's only a temporary home for the majority of them, and yes, clown s are terrifyinf to many, not just in the tabletop either.

Clowns are a bit weird, like me, many people don;t like them, though they're bearablein 28mm!
I've becoe a bit hardened to people know dying, from friens at school to close relatives and I have to be strong for the wife, whose younger brother has passed.

  12. Wonderful selection of figures. I gathered it it is quite a fun game to play as well. There are some really excellent celebrity figures amongst the Zombicide sets as well. Sorry to hear about the funeral.

    1. Thanks Brummie, the reviews and gamplay reports I've read seem to indicate it was a lot of fun, but the figures being so good would have certainly helped too.
The funeral was much later than expected, but it'll be a hard day for my wife.
