Of the figures in the photograph to the right, only the five figures in the foreground have been deemed to be as finished as they're going to be
There's nothing happened to the wagon since it was assembled, the plastic elephant has merely been based up and still requires painting

Thought their clothing is slightly changed they're close enough to represent the figures being at on the wagon and in 'dismounted' mode too.
The woman has lost her child when getting off the wagon (careless or what?), bu has found a rifle to defend the male, who is presumably meant to be leading the oxen, horses or what ever.
I've made provision for wagons in my version of "Jimland" and have some quests planned too for their use.

The three figures, have nothing really to do with Jimland:
Left to Right, George Orwell (from Col. Bill's); a cat lady (from Black Cat Bases) and a farmer (could see action in Jimland). The latter is a cheap knock-off of a Britain's 54mm Farmer and I haven't a clue how I got him.

The second set, was created to make solo play more interesting, as without an opponent there would be little to no point playing.
They are in the form of a set of "Events" that are triggered by the players figures entering each 'square' of the treasure area.
I have four events, each of a Native encounter, traps, items, characters and animals.

As I couldn't get all the information needed for each of the event cards onto the cards themselves, and just in case anyone was interested enough to play the game, I put my ideas down on paper, rather than try to remmeber them all off the cuff.
So where various things are and their effects on the game have all be given descriptions.
The event cards 'rules' took up a side and a half of A4, but I also made a separate page of rules outlining how this particular version of my treasure hunt game will work.
I'll be giving a lot more information in a future blog as I go through the setup and the game.

Everyone returned alive from the expedition, which is a sort of measure of success, but it's all about the cash, enabling one to have another expedition outfitted with cash in hand.
Ned's first expedition spent $290 in trade, food etc. and had $35 in hand. The expedition's 'cash-in' upon its return netted them $240 with no cash left! So overall the expedition was $85 down, but on the plus side still managed to improve a skill of two of the explorers by1, having netted more than $200, equally important!
I have Ned Burlington's second expedition into Jimland to report upon sometime in a future post, but I have my fingers crossed that I'll also be playing another Adventure with a real live opponent, though I'll just be playing as the Natives! Of course, nothing is certain, but the outlook is promising atm.

Thanks Clint, there's many ways to tackle a pbm(ish) game and I'm sue you'll manage. The fights in Jimland don't take that long, maybe 30minutes, so perhaps you'll get some ttakers for fights at your club.Delete

Jimland is getting well explored as we can all see from the map but plenty more exploring to be done but maybe with wagons the brave chaps will be able to cover more ground :)

If you think of my Jimland as, maybe the size of current day Zululand, and the Map as Africa then there's still a lot of exploring to do.
Wagons and animals are great, when they work, but taking a wagon through Jungle can't be much fun!
In my game wagons won't be available to players save as part of a larger Quest, but Pack animals will be, as soon as I get them painted up!
You've done far better than me on the painting front this week Joe - this 'heatwave' is a bit draining (but ideal weather for a Jimland adventure!), and ANY progress is a step in the right direction :-)ReplyDelete

The aar of the Treasure hunt may well be a blow by blow account of rule explanations, so should be fairly boring!

I'll email a copy of the rules as they stand at the moment. They were made with solo play in mind, but you'll also need a set of normal rules for movement, sshooting etc. (THW genric set would fit in nicely)

The pirate adventure sounds good so I'm looking forward to that especially as you have solo rules for it.
I did buy some pirates but they are so far down the painting queue they will probably never surface.
The last Jimland exploration covered quite a bit of new ground, maybe they need to start cutting roads to run the waggons on, that way you can carry lots of supplies.
Thanks Vagabond,I reckon the treasure hunt rules could be apllied to any genre (more or less) as there's no reason the treaures couldn't be in a town, or elwhere. It's only a matter of adapting the clues to the situation. Eg. Ghost town for westerns, with safes and desks etc.Delete
Jimland doesn;t have trails, roads etc. but I've adapted it for my game so I have them.
Elephant was a bargain. They will get done when they get done. Its hard to find the motivation when the weather is as warm as it has been lately. I have done very little in the past few weeks. I have lots of plans just not the will to act on them yet! HA!ReplyDelete
