More Stalls

Ok, so i's a bit of a cheeky title, but just two more stalls to show and the finished butcher's stall.
The stall on the right is from "Frontline" (iirc), which I've painted up in various metallic colours for variety - the figure shown is from Eureka for scale.
I have three other similar stalls from "Frontline" only one of which I'm currently building a canopy for  and I'm undecided on the others.

Next up is an "Irongate" market stall of spices, herbs and so on.
The two tier arrangement is a nice feature imho and is seen a lot in the current Cairo markets, sometimes seen stacked up to five or more times.
This is 'finished' but I'll be adding a few more things as I've done to the Butchers (shown last week) to make it a more interesting scenic item.

Really boring rear view
Only slightly more interesting side view
Other side view (Padding - Ed.)
Updated Butchers stall - in its final state

Side view with the freshest meat possible on the right !
Other side view (More Padding - Ed)
Obligatory group shot
My canopies I decided should be faded and worn, most I see look 'brand new' with bright colours, a look I didn't want. The third stall I have (a fish stall) has a similarly washed out blue-striped one and should be ready next week!

So in a week where I didn't stick anywhere near to my regime of an hour a day hobby time, (insert usual excuses) I still feel I managed something worth posting about.

That's it then for yet another week, thanks for taking the time to visit, I hope you've found something of interest and as always your comments are both welcomed and appreciated.

  1. The stalls look excellent Joe, and the faded colours add to the well used look of them and great details on each

    1. Thanks MJT, the biggest problem I think I'll have with them is going to be storage.

  3. Crikey! Is that a massive pineapple hand-grenade you're trying to sell off amongst the assorted pots, dishes, jugs and jars in the first photo?!

Joking aside, I have to say that all the stalls look good. The canopied stalls, with their hanging items or double-tiered display, look the business. The goat is a nice touch too. Agree with you, and Dave, that the faded colours complete the look and make the scene 'believable'. - That is another tip I've gleaned from your blog. Castle walls aren't grey. Rivers and streams should be brown and not blue. Canvas roofs over market stalls should be worn and faded, not factory fresh.

Are these all resin or 3d printed plastic? And if so, did they require washing before paint application, or did they take paint with no problems?
Can't say I've had issue with resin or plastic terrain items with paint in the past. But I have had issue with plastic-y resin miniatures not taking paint - even after washing.

    1. Thanks Roy, it is indeed a novelty pineapple ice cube holder (o rmybe the holy hand grenade of Anitoch - unprimed.
The models are either plastic or Resin, I can't remember which but they feel very plasticky. Check Irongate's web page they keep changing from one to the other.
Resin or plastic, I just spray without any prep. If it doesn't cover or hold, I spray agai !.
I've only has the old Wargame factory plastic zombies until not when I have the 'modern' plastic s arriving.

  7. Great stuff Joe! Really like the look of the two tier stall 😀
*though admittedly, when I read your post title I wasn't sure if I wanted to click on it - working in the barn here at the farm 50-60 hours a week, the last thing I wanted to see was more stalls lol*

    1. Haha, thanks Ivor, your comment really did cheer me up, we on this side of the pond, also consider toilet cubicles as stalls !
I did do a google image of modern day Cairo markets' spice stalls and I don't think it's changed much in the last hundred years or so.

    1. Thanks Michael, though I doubt I'm the only one to have considered this, after all it still happens today, though maybe to a lesser extent with choosing your own lobster, fish etc.

    1. Thanks Ptr, I've found that the stalls at least are less bother to paint than minis.
My carpets came from "Lidl" (iirc), approximately 1m x 2m. I've cut one in two form Jumland and still have the other rolled up.
