Civilians

I've managed to get a few figures to the stage where I'm happy enough to say that they're good enough for the table-top.
These four on the right are all Foundry figures from their Street Violence ranges, as with all foundry figures they're on the large side, even for a "28mm" figure, but they'll fit in with most of the other figures I have nonetheless. I selected these four from the  group as they could all easily double as rioters too. There is an excellent ATZ-BDTZ scenario with a riotous mob and these will fit the bill nicely as agent-provocateurs.
The next three are all Mega-Minis, whilst I'm happy with the Postman, I'm not that happy with the two delivery type chaps. I've painted these two several times and I've all but given up on them, so they'll have to do as they are. (The blurry photo is not to hide the awful painting, but is merely a reflection of the camera-man's skills -zero.)
It will come as no surprise to most of you that all of these are described as "28mm scale", of course we all know that there is no such thing.
The chap on the left is a Foundry, beside him is a Hasslefree and the three others are Offensive Miniatures (hostages).  The OM's are the most accurately proportioned imo,  though the Hasslefree Kev is also equally well proportioned, for a small adult or a teenager. (The Foundry guy to 1/60th scale woiuld have a hand with knuckles about eight inches across ! - but I still like him)
Last for this week are three more Foundry  (I think) and the nightwatchman type bloke is a Hasslefree.
Nothing much can be said about these four other than the nightwatchman looks like a giant against the Hasslefree figure above and I find kneeling figures aren't as usable as standing figures except in a set-piece.

Having finished the troopers a while back,  I've made a start on the next batch of zombie. They're nearly all Old Glory (and look very medieval for the most part), but there are a couple of Mega Minis in the mix too. You may be able to see a young girl wielding a hockey stick (very vogue atm) and dragging a teddy bear/doll
and behind her is a basebal wielding kid too - these are both Mega-minis.

As I've started on this group of zombies I also needed another group so that there is a continuity in my production; the group that I pried from their abominable slotta-bases have now all been rebased onto washers.
This group is mostly Zombiesmith miniatures (and very good they are too). There are about twenty zombies and three pairs of survivors and their zombie counterparts. There are also a couple of random figures in the mix which could well be some very cheap Sci-fi figures  I picked up from goodness knows where.

I'll finish by welcoming my latest follower "Belique"and that's that for another week, except to say that as always your comments are both welcomed and appreciated.

  2. Those civilians are great! And I think really needed in any modern gaming, as well....okay, "needed", but still...

    1. Some of the less-well armed civilains (molotocs, hammers etc.) would fit into your gmes as poorly armed combatants too.

    2. They'd be perfect for the civilian mobs. I plan to convert some of the zombies I havent yet put together into civilians. Not too many, just enough to cover the frontage of the mob, the rest would be filled with zombies for mass effect. If I got 50 zombies, they might as be useful :D

    3. A lot of the Wargames factory Z's can be made into civilians with a little effort. Of course, having the suruvivor plastics would be good too.

    4. Yeah, using survivors would be better, but they're too valuable as the insurgents now :P. So Zombies are a better choice.

If I'd use WGF Survivors for civilians as well, I'd have 60 miniatures (minimum :P) and they'd strangely all look quite alike :D

  3. Good work on the civvies, Joe. I actually like the fact that not all 28mm scale figures are exactly 28mm tall. Some variance in height is perfectly acceptable and just reflects real life.
The HF nightwatchman was not sculpted by Kevin White and originally appeared alongside a non-Kev White Scooby Doo. I think both figures have now been withdrawn from the HF catalogue.
It's good to see so many zombies on your painting table.

    1. I don't mind figures being different heights weights etc, but when someones hand is 8 inches across, well....
Being the cynical person I am I believe manufacturers class their figures as 28mm so they can't actually be shown to be of no scale whatsoever.
As for zombies, i would like to see more on my table rather than the dozen or so I've seen in other games.

  4. They look really good. They'd enhance any table, well done.

  5. Nice work on the civilians Joe
Good range of figures, I found OM to have some nice UK cops too. Riot types for the scenario. I find that betwee 25-33mm to be the norm for 28mm.LOL.

    1. Thanks Bob, I really don't mind different sized figures at all it's just the use of the term 28mm and their bulkines. I have Hinchcliffe figures classed as 25mms, the same height as some of these so called 28mms, and they are better proportioned, likewise RSM figures (again classed as 25mm IIRC) who are beautifully accurate figures and the height of some 28mms !. My very old plastic Spence Smith (based on SAE miniatures) were always classed as 30mms and are way smaller than some 28's !

  6. I like this Joe. They are looking pretty good. Together with some of your excellent scenery this is just fantastic! (Plus a horde of zombies...NOM NOM NOM!)

    1. Thanks LS, I read somewhere (possibly the BotLL forum) that to be classified as a horde it has to be over 100, with these well I'm well on the way to getting there.

  7. Those first batch of civilians are a tough bunch of individuals - great job Sir.

  8. Nice group of civilians they'll bring the table to life nicely. The Hasslefree fig in the third pic is smaller anyway as its based on a sculpt Kev did of himself for a competition where people where sent a naked kev and they had to sculpt detail onto them in different themes. All the not Kev's are smaller than the rest of the figs in the ranges.

I think they should abolish the term scale and use some other method of determining sizes though what I couldn't suggest!

The hordes are beginning to mass!

    1. Thanks for than Brummie, it clears up the smaller "Kev" situation.
They actually have abolished the term scale whichis my point entirely, "a 28mm figure" means nothing, whereas a 1/60th scale figure actually means something.

  9. I like all the civilians; you've knocked alot of painting out. I look forward to the zombiesmith minis. I don't like my zombies to have weapons, it's bad enough they want to eat you.

    1. I'm quite pleased to be able to slap paint onto figures again; zombies with weapons could of course just be used for variety and their weapons ignored.

  10. I like the civilians, they make a nice group. The hostages could make for good objective markers if needed. Really well done sir!

    1. Thanks N667, Two of the hostages could just as easily be used as people waiitnng for a bus.

  12. Great job on the civilians, perfect for rescue scenarios and the such like. The difference in scale on some of the figiures will be less noticabel once they're on the table.
