I've Got Nothing

Boringly sitting on the new carpet
It had to happen, I've had a week where it seems I've got nothing new to  post about.  I haven't got the usual excuses of ill-health, boredom or lack of enthusiasm, as I have been beavering away  painting to my usual regime of at least an hour a day and even the grief shopping trip didn't detract from hobby time.
I saw on Eric-the -shed's blog that 'Lidl' once more have the green carpets in store this last week. The carpets are £6.99 for a very nice chunk of green mat 1m x 2m (about 39" x 78")- so I bought two !
The close up photograph on the right shows a close up with Upsidaisi on his bullock, on the grass mat.
The reverse of the mat has little rubber bubbles for drainage purposes (?) or some such reason, but it does make them very anti-slip.
Obligatory boring picture, showing the whole thing
Two of these would give an excellent 6 foot square (approx) gaming surface and of course one cut in half would be ample for most skirmish games imo.
The 'Arabs on the sorting tray (five units words and spears + unit of rifles - off to the far right)
Ten units of fuzzies 95% done - plus hangers on in the top left
As can probably be guessed, most of my time has been utilised painting my Sudanese Fuzzies and just as I thought they were just about ready for varnishing and having their flags added I spotted quite a few who still needed a few things finished on them. A lot of them still have their necklaces to paint, a few of the Perry minis I have just noticed have small pouches and sack to paint and the few drummers I have need their detailing finished too.

Close up view to pad out the blog
I also come remembered a few 'new' (second hand) vehicles that I've haven't posted about, so here they are:
A tipper truck
Tipper truck tipping (*yawn)
Tipper truck no tipping ( boring huh?)
Fire truck, slightly more interesting as it's a model I haven't got a version of
Fire truck again (bit boring really)
Police command trailer (with opening door! - but still boring)
Really boring rear view.
Well, that's it then for another week, hopefully next week may seem an improvement in content as I aim to make a big effort to get the Fuzzies finished and maybe an adventure into Jimland fitted in somehow.
If you haven't fallen asleep thus far as always your views and comments are always welcomed and appreciated.

  2. Joe! What a post :-)
I missed the Lidl mats the first time they made an appearance, so I'll be out touring all of our local stores in the morning hoping to find one in stock! I bought a 3ft x 3ft cheap vinyl grass printed mat off ebay, and it's just awful and I NEED to replace it :-)

The two vehicles are OK, but the "command trailer" looks an excellent bit of kit that could be useful (admittedly with a repaint) for quite a few different gaming genres and scenarios :-)

As for the Sudanese, this is where your painting en masse REALLY pays off! Having that many mini's at the 95% stage of 'finished' means you're at the final stages of having all those units table ready :-)

    1. Thanks WA, I feel much better now, so thanks again for that.
The vehicles are a bit meh, but like you I feel the command trailer has potential.
The fuzzies are a priority now!

    2. Just registering a big THANK YOU Joe :-)
I tried a couple of local Lidl shops yesterday but they'd both sold out of the mats (apparently they were 'in store' a fortnight ago) - undaunted, I went a bit further afield today and found one! :-)

Thanks again for the 'heads up'!

  3. The drums of Jimland are pounding away in my head. Two Tylenols haven't helped.

  4. I too have had a week where I just could not get going. It seems the winter is dragging on and on. Unfortunately no Lidl near me, (a train journey with a change of trains) but other than that what excellent looking grass mats.

    1. Thanks CLint, I reckon we all have a time when we just can;t seem to get anything done, Shame about the Lidl's though.

  5. That mat is very good looking Joe & working on so many models at the same time its easy to miss a few bits here & there, will you repaint the trucks or just use them as they are ?

    1. Thanks Frank, missing bits is one of the flaws in painting en-masse, interruptions and general lack of concentration seem to be the main causes.
Like nearly all my vehicles they'll probably be put into storage for the day when I sit and work on them all (probably never), in the meantime if they're ver used then they;ll be used as is.

  6. Hi Joe thanks for the Lidl news on the mat/carpet, it looks pretty good although maybe a bit bright, what do you think, colour in photos can be quite misleading.
I'm so impressed that you paint an hour each day, I need to be very motivated to get the brushes out. You will soon have hundreds of fully painted little lead men running round your table, what will you do then?
As Greg said the trailer looks like a good find and should be very useful if you get back to zed gaming, but in the meantime I'm looking forward to the next adventure in Jimland.
    Cheers

    1. Thanks Vag. the Lidl mats are much more subdued than they appear in my photos (probably due to flash and the cameraman is crap)and I reckon they're perfect for gaming.
Sadly, once the Sudanese figures are finished, they'll sadly be boxed away, put into storage and forgotten about ! (along with other unused armies).
I like the trailer a lot and it has more chance of having something doe to it than many other models I have.

    3. I went to my local one and they didn't have any on display, but filled a stand with them 5 minutes before I left! Good luck with your hunt for them.

    1. Thanks Michael, they look good in vast numbers but won't stand up to close scrutiny - so they'll not be appearing in public!

  8. Hello, just a quick question? Where did you get that police Command Centre from?

  9. The Police Command trailer (and two almost identical others - fire and emergency services iirc) can sometimes be found in Wilkinsons for about £5 - £7 I think. They're in the "Roadsters" (Roadsterz ?)range of products. - Easily found on Ebay too, but I got mine on a tabletop sale (or maybe a charity shop)for £1. - Hope that helps.
