Boneripper's

Close up of front door
In another effort to increase the size of my 'city' quickly I made another quick 'box' building that originally I had earmarked for my "Meteor Store" along with plans for an internal layout.
Well, the plans didn't come to fruition as I had decided that the effort just wasn't worth it, so I decided to make this one more or less "standard".
Once again it is from the Microtactix "Twilight Streets" range   Heroic buildings set and didn't need any re-scaling.

The original (front and rear)
The original model can be seen on the left and what should be quickly apparent is that my version is slightly larger, by about half as much again in width and depth.

My building, like the original is square at about 9" x 9", the original being about 6" x 6". Both buildings are about 4.5" to the top of the roof parapet.

My Version

I increased the frontage of the building adding a bit more wall of course the extra windows in the second floor  (I do like symmetry)

Boring Side
I wanted something other than another "box" for this building so I added an extra bit of walling , but only one story high. The double door on the roof were a leftover from the Meteor store idea, when this building was going to be three stories high.
Rear of building
The rear was more of less the same as the original except for the bit of wall I added on the ground floor and the double doors on the upper floor.
Rear of building and the other boring side wall
Very boring roofs
The second side wall was a mirror image of the first (of course).
By the time I got to the stage where I was about to add some detail to the building I was very bored with this building. I had had all sorts of problems with it, due mainly to the very old warped foamboard that I had been using  and that for some reason it just would go together well.
The only extra bits I put on it were the side wall posters and a poster on the front door.
I do like this building though (just not my build) and I do think it would be worthwhile giving it another attempt, maybe even detailing the interior and adding some roof furniture.

Next week I'll be posting a far more successful build, that used my Xmas foamcard.

That's it then for another week and as always your comments are both welcomed and appreciated.

  1. I think you have done a great job on the conversion of the building.... it looks ACE!

    1. Many thanks HW, I wish I thought the same

  2. I think it's really good. Once you put it in the context of a city table full of other buildings it will fit right in. There's plenty of boring buildings in a city, and with Zombies shuffling all over it, it will get interesting! Looks good and is quick and cost effective, I'm not really seeing a downside :-)

    1. Thanks Paul, it's already on my table for my next game, probably this week

  3. Good job Joe! I really like your version. Not every building can or should be exciting. There is a definite need of humdrum, regular buildings, not that this is tbh.

  5. Top stuff Joe. Always enjoy seeing your builds, whether they be coffee stirrers or card. As CW states "another cracking addition to your collection. You can always put that splendid water tower on top of this building just to 'cap it off'.

    1. Thanks Blax, if nothing else it's another usable building, but the water tower is kinda reserved for the building I'll be showing next week !

  6. Good decision to increase the footprint of this building, Joe. It's a one I'd love to make, but with interior detail. It is crying out to be used as the HQ of a biker gang.

    1. Thanks Bryan, as you say, this would make a great HQ for the few Bikers I have. I do think I'll be remaking this model some time in the future to have interior detail.

  7. The city grows and goes from strength to strength. A good addition and it is nice to see your city grow. (It means bigger and better zombie games!)

    1. Thanks Clint, it certainly does mean bigger games though I'm reticent to say better ones. The next game I've prepared used all of my 8 foot by 4 foot table area.

    1. Thanks N667, I do like to customise a lot of my buildings just to have something different from everyone else ! This building will feature in y next game, but only as backgound.

  10. Great add? I like the idea of the terrace. It break the "box" looking" of the building and add gameplay possibilities...

    1. Nerci Shuby, I do get tired of 'bo' buildings hence I tend to try and make them either 'L' shaped or with some other prominent feature. The trerrace does add a lot imo to an otherwise boring building.

    1. Thanks TEx, I love the idea of rooftop shootouts but this building could do with some roof-top furniture too.

  12. Nice job! It's good to hear you're not afraid of adding lengths and such, it sounds simple but I would not be too keen on fiddling with the plans myself for some reason!

  13. Looks real nice Joe and your conversion is more usable than the original.Using paper-buildings with a solid frame is quite creative. If you are a skilled photographer the range of new buildings is endless.I tried some of this myself and after som calibration with a printer the result is quite o.k.Are you into making new buildings of your own from scratch using own photgraphs? :) / Peter

    1. Thanks Ptr, I'm not much of a photographer (as you're probably aware from the pics I take) but I have looked into how others have done what you suggest. There is also a building near where I live that would be great for such a project roofs would be a bit tricky though !

  14. I will send you a e-mail with some tips about how you could do this project. It is not so tricky. The main thing is to find the right wall to picture. The rest is creative and fun.
