Sudan - more Civvies

I've been successful at keeping up my regime of getting at least an hour's hobby time each day over the last week, but have really little to show for all my efforts. With very few figures to paint up for the Sudan, or Jimland, for that matter I've been digging out anything I can find to paint.
On the paint-queue I have another dozen figures, four for the Sudan and the remainder destined for Jimland,
The figures hsown above and on the left, I bought sometime around twenty years ago, the herder is a Redoubt figure (iirc) whilst the five ladies are all from Irregular Minis.

Pretty boring huh ?

Whilst still painting, the majority of my time this week has been used assembling and preparing market stalls, three are the excellent Irongate stalls, four I'm making for the Fronline (iirc) tables and I'm also scratch-building a further two. I have a dozen or so animals ready to prime and paint. The only flaw in all my plans is that I'm wearing out all my usable brushes and will have to order more soon, very soon..

Not much of a post this week I know, but truthfully the Covid19 thing has had little effect on my situation and I'm still plodding on at my usual snail's pace. The Sudan output has come to a mere trickle as I doubt I have more than a dozen figures left to finish and all the others have now been safely stored away.

As usual I spend little time on my computer over the weekend and I'll be playing catch-up on all the blogs I normally comment on, over the next few days.

That's it then for another week, thanks for taking the time to visit and of course your comments are always welcomed and appreciated.

  1. The painted figures look great Joe, and by the sounds of all the prep work you've been doing you've achieved a fair amount this week.
I know what you mean about supplies, having run out of several paints, greenstuff ( luckily was able to order this one) and many other bits I need to progress with projects

    1. Thanks Dave, I did get a little overenthusiastic in the prep work, partialy because of the brush situation. Hoping to rectify my supply chain soon.

  2. I'd love to think that I had as few unpainted miniatures as you Joe. And since I'm not really a fan of having to paint them up, it'd be a win win for me.

    1. Haha, I only have a few figres left to paint for JImland and the Sudan ! Like every gamer I know I have more figures in boxes, drawere etc. that still require painting and probably never will be.

    2. I've taken the drastic decision that most of my unused and unpainted stuff is going.

I had started on this course before all this but, since looking around the attic at ALL the different (and unfinished or non-started) projects that are up there, I'm even more resolved now to see them go. On looking at what I have, I reached twenty different projects, noticed there was lots of others still to count, so stopped counting.

I don't know if Stuart still sells them, but Col. Bills had some good quality brushes when I was working there. I know as I have some, myself. Synthetic fibre brushes, so not sable or the like. But I've had no problem with them, and they were competitively priced (though the price I remember them at was a couple of years back). Ah, just looked at one next to me. They're Coat d'Arms brushes. As in the paints.

    3. I've got quite a few projects that came to an abruot eb=nd too with unpainted or unused figures. I'm a bit of a hoarder too, but all of my figures, armies, used and unused will pass down to my #1 son and his offspring.

  3. Decent output, especially if you include prep,I'm doing a fair bit of that and it does impact on painting time, they look good in your scratch built building!

  4. It goes that way Joe sometimes a lot of things finish together & other times all you have at the end of a weeks work is just progress, but all progress is good right :)

I look forward to the market stalls as their something I need to do myself.

    1. Thanks Frank, I like your philosophical approach and I'll take every bit of progress , no matter how little.
Market stalls have sadly stalled due to lack of a suitable glue for the resin pieces.

  5. Good work Joe, and they look a characterful bunch, despite being predominantly black (is my favourite palette rubbing off on you, LOL!!).

    1. Thanks Blaxx and that's the way it goes with historical minis sometimes, though I have tried to give the ladies a little colour even if subdued.

  8. Great stuff Joe, and I'd say they amount to a fair tally - especially since it's not a race, and though the other Joe (Stalin) would disagree, they do say "quality over quantity" :-)

Looking forward to seeing the market stalls, especially your scratch built ones for inspiration!

    1. Thanks Twa for the encouragement - I need some at times !
The stalls are a mish-mash of bought, altered and scratch-built, so watch this space.
