It's a twenty figure unit to fit in with my rules of choice "The Sword and the Flame" (TSaTF), in rule terms it's a platoon and four of these, plus supernumeraries would make a battalion - which along with a couple of model guns, would be more than sufficient for a game.
Proof that I've painted the rear of the figures too |
For those among you that know nothing of the British Army in general or the Sudan wars in particular, the Wessex regiment doesn't exist, and neither does The Mercia regiment either !
How they'll probably fight most of the time |
As this project started sometime around the turn of the millennium it would be nice to at least finish off all the figures, cannon and gunboats etc that I already have.
They don't look too bad in the dark and you squint |
The figures are all "Old Glory", which although maybe not to everyone's taste, I like them them, and they're cheap and cheerful.
That's it then for this week, next week I'll probably be posting about Max's third adventure into "Jimland" and I doubt I'll have the next two units destined for the Sudan finished.
As always your comments, queries, brickbats and bouquets are always welcomed and appreciated
Looking great sir!
ReplyDeleteThank you Michal, for youre very kind comment.
Delete"They don't like it up em", lovely work and progress Joe!
ReplyDeleteThanks AL, they cerainly don't like ut anywhere near 'em, let alone where you suggest !
DeleteProgress is prgress !
Nice unit Joe. I don't know TSaTF but a lot of folk seem to like it.
ReplyDeleteThanks MJT, TSaTF is in it's 40th anniversary next year; it's an 'o;d' school' set of rules (imo) that's managed to keep fresh and fun. It does have a lot of support - even it's own popular section on the TMP board too, oozing with enthusiasm for the system - who needs a new glossy, overpriced set of rules (regulary updated with a new edition) when there are tired and tested rules around ?
DeleteGreat stuff Joe! Are they 15mm then?
ReplyDeleteThanks Ivor; the figures are Old Glory "28mms".
DeleteUp the Wessexs! They look great! You seem to have got over your block and after the interesting review of past armies and buildings it's nice to see new painting!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain,I'd worked out why I wasn;t painting, fixed the "problem" and got back to painting and gaming.
DeleteBeen a bit hard on yourself Joe they look smashing :)
ReplyDeleteThanks frank, but even so, what I see (ish) is not what others see - (I blam my Myopia, two eye operations, macular degeneration, red/green, white/yellow problems and old age)
DeleteI imagine it's difficult to get motivated tp start painting figures you probably don't intend to use, so well done for that. Couldn't you introduce them into Jimland as an event, rather lkke the natives you come across. Maybe the good Queen Vic has instigated a peace treaty and theres a ban on exploration of certain parts of Jimland and the Wessex regiment are the police?
ReplyDeleteThanks vagabind, getting motivated to do anything hobby related (other than playing a game) has always been difficult for me. Unless there is an end purpose in what I do outside a game, I won't do it. These guys are soon to be joined by another two similar-sized units and another unit from my "forgtotten armies". They will engage in combat with the Sudanese figures I painted last year (about 400 or so) and I've also put in an order for sufficents figures to make an additional 8 units !
DeleteSo overall, these guys can avoid service in Jimland, but are instead destined for "The Soudan" (sic).
I do like your thinking though and I have been re-visiting Ubonga (very similar to Jimland and just as deadly), which may happen.
