Ned (left front of the column) and his improved expedition |
So how would it turn out ?
Read on...
Once more then,
From the Journal of Frederick Cartington
"Edward came good and with his newly found enthusiasm our column set off for the North-westward route around the lake to the North of Jim's Landing with a sizable column consisting of Ned (as leader of course); Bert, the Doc.; myself as Hunter; Ebor our scout and Horatio our interpreter. We were afforded the luxury of being accompanied by five Askari and a dozen bearers,, all laden down with food loads - enough to keep the expedition going for about a fortnight."
"By day two we were in uncharted territory and were immediately ambushed by natives, several of whom were armed with old decrepit rifles"
Four natives with hand to hand weapons on the left, three rifles on the right |
Four hand to hand natives hidden from view in the top left |
One native rifleman moves into cover, the other two shoot to little effect. |
The melee armed natives using cover to close to the column |
All the column personnel head for cover... |
...whilst the bearers do the same - away from the threat! |
Ned has a save roll of 18/20. What could possibly go wrong ? |
One down three to go! |
Ned falls victim to a native axe! (notice too the large frog in the background) |
Upon investigation I found Ned lying in the jungle and called upon Doc to care for him"
So, the doc raced over over I rolled to see if Ned would survive, Doc's ability is 7/20, so a 35% chance of survival, I rolled the D20, with trepidation and I'll tell you the result next week.
In other news my wife is getting well fast, probably due to my never-ending
But that's all I've got for this week and so it's back to reality; thanks for taking the time to visit and as always your comments are both welcomed and appreciated.
How could you Joe leaving us to hang like that about the faith of Ned ? good way to get us coming back for more :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your devotion to the Mr's is speeding up her recovery ;)
Thanks Frank, but there were other considerations for leaving it where I did, I'd ran out of time. I'd forgotten too how long it takes to edit photographs !
DeleteThe missus is coming along in leaps and bound but without any of the leaping or bounding.
I can't believe you would resort to this form of cliff hanger ending to your story. :)
ReplyDeleteWell apart from Ned maybe dead, it's all looking successful so far.
I'm pleased that Jimland is keeping you motivated and gaming, prior to this you seemed a bit down about the games. Of course this is purely selfish as I'm enjoying the game reports.
Cheers
Thnaks Vagabond, on the story front, I claim extenuating circumstances and refer you to my previous answer above.
DeleteJimland did keep me motivated (exphasis on did), my enthusiasm is upand down as often as a bride's nightie.
Just like the serial movies back when I was kid. Leave them hanging, so they will come back for the climax of the previous segment, then on with the next. Sweet!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jay, I too went to Saturday morning matinees at the cinema and well remember Zorro on a stagecoach that was about to go over a cliff and couldn;t wait for next episode and had to wait a whole week!
DeleteThat, of course was not my untention in this case!
Sorry pressed enter before I said well done for the excellent care you must be giving your wife for her to recover so quickly, I expect you have a big notice pinned up somewhere so she knows who is responsible, probably with some form of repayment system in place.
ReplyDeleteHaha, not to worry, technology hates me too.
DeleteI reckon it's sort of expected as we made some sort of agreement nearly forty years ago, so she's probably expecting it to be contractual.
What a fiendish ending, Joe, utterly fiendish!! Great BatRep even if things look decidedly dodgy for poor Ned :-)
ReplyDeleteMwahhahahaha! I think that's how a fiendish mastermind would react, but my reaction is more teehee or meh.
Deleteand what's with all the negative vibes about Ned?
Well I wasn't expecting that, and presumably neither was Ned.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to you good lady wife.
When the natives Hand to hand skills are low and the explorer's save roll is the max, along with the Spanish Inquisition, it certainly wasn't expected.
DeleteThanks for the kind words for my wife, I'll pass your best wishes on of course.
Oh, ending?
ReplyDeleteReally love all of these gaming story ;)
Not ending, merely just a quicker than usual post Michal, this story just got going, so there a lotmore still to like.
DeleteGlad to hear the Goode Wife is one the mend. Nice report Joe.
ReplyDeleteThanks Brummie on both counts.
DeleteOoh you little bugger, fancy leaving us in suspenders...
ReplyDeleteGlad your ministerings have had the desired effect and Mrs Zab is on the mend
Haha, Imay have thought I'd just copy what others have done to frustrate ! (maybe)
DeleteYep, Mrs Zab, is indeed on the mend p bug time and right on schedule, according to the bumph we have.
What a cliff hanger! Great to hear that wife is on the mend too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michael, the cliffahnger wasn't intentional but more due to time pressures and yes she's on the mend.
DeleteEnding on a cliff-hanger!
ReplyDeleteAnother extremely enjoyable edition. I hope you keep them coming far longer than just next week!
Thanks Clint, sorry aBout the cliffhanger (sort of) and I really do need some more impetus to carry on with Jimland adventures, but there is still the remainder of this expedition's exploits to deliver - so not all is done yet.
DeleteExcellent stuff all round Joe - great write up, and glad to hear your good lady doing well thanks to your TLC :-)
ReplyDeleteI too have fond memories of the Saturday Matinees (we're obviously of a similar age group from before "Bingo Halls"), and remember well the cliff-hanger endings...... which were changed considerably at the start of the sequel ;-)
Looking forward to the next episode and making an offering to the Dice Gods on behalf of Ned!
Fun if curtailed expedition! Glad to hear your better half is on the mend.
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Cavead, yes, the expdition went downhill pretty fast and the return trip was quite a nail biting finish to the adventure.
