Nine units of spear and sword. |
The skirmish unit of rifles and stick throwers (?) |
The nine units are then organised further into three groups of three.
All of the above is to fit in with the rules "The Sword and the Flame".
Close up view. |
Hard to spot, the dots on the base of each of these. |
As these units look identical (save for the skirmishers) I identified each unit by adding one, two or three subtle dots on the rear of each figure as shown in the photograph to the right.
The three unit of each bigger unit also had their flags colour coordinated to the dots.
So that the three green flag units (Rayas) all had green dots; the black flags, black dots and the red flags brown dots as I thought red would be too harsh.
Figures from the third unit of the green flags |
I did have to swap two flags.over (having glued the wrong ones on), I found two other figures that needed finishing which enabled me to have two foot Emirs.
The other 'problem' was that each unit needed a distinctive leader figure and as I had very few - I gave the figures I used for leaders a distinctive red border to the lower part of their 'dress'. All that remains now is to find a suitable storage space for them, pack them away and forget about them !
The finished mass ! |
So that's it then for this week I hope you've found something of interest in my endeavours to finish off the 200 plus figures (I know that it seems to have gone on forever)\ and as always your comments are both welcomed and appreciated.
Amazing amount of work and they look great! I like the shiny varnish finish too.
ReplyDeleteThanks MJT, working on these has been like a kick-back to my early decades in wargaming and gloss varnish was all I used then too.
DeleteGood grief - you are a painting junkie. If I had painted 200 figures in such a short time I would collapse in a jibbering heap, not getting out another 100 figures.
ReplyDeleteNice idea for the dots on the bases, and a big well done on the painting
Thanks Vagabond, I didn't consider it a short time, but then again I'm getting on a bit!
DeleteThe figures will be up to table-top standard, I/m guessing in two to three weeks.
The dots work for me and the painting wonuldn;t stand up to close scrutiny.
Der Lord! Look at that lot! Amazing Joe, what a terrifying sight for those in their firing line.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michael, I think Eric the Shed produced twice as many in half the time!
DeleteIf I ever get around to painting up a firing line then it will be a fine sight.
Looking really great sir!
ReplyDeleteThanks you michal, much appreciated.
DeleteCongrats on finishing them Joe, I hope you find away of using them in a game I know for some people painting models is enough & their not pushed on if they game with them or not.
ReplyDeleteThanks Frank, I've really only painted them to clear a little from the lead mountain and I'd dearly love to game with them - maybe one day.
DeleteHoley Moley!
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly when they were finished and lined up.
DeleteCongratulations on getting over the finishing line with this HORDE Joe, and hats off to you for celebrating by loading another hundred onto the painting table! :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas with the dots/numerals and flags, and the leader's red coding btw :-)
Thanks WA for all of the above comment, I did realise though after posting that it's 120 figures as I'd forgotten the skirmisher/rifle unit !
Delete"Quantity has a quality all of its own!" Excellent mate really excellent.
ReplyDeleteThanks Clint, a case of "Never mind the quality" eh?
DeleteFab work and a clever way of identifying whom belongs where.
ReplyDeleteThanks Brummie, I often wonder how others solve their similar problems
DeleteWow, most impressive job, congrats!
ReplyDeleteThanks you Phil, much appreciated (and the next batch of 120 are all but finished too).
