City Boards

Another of the many 'treasures' I rescued from Bryan's (Vampifan's) collection, just about a year ago.
These boards have been lying quietly in a corner of the room where I orginally stored all of Bryan's rescued possessions and it was only when I'd finished cleaning off my games table that I thought about showing these boards.
The photograph on the right shows my table cleared off (for six foot at least), all ready to once more be used as a Xmas present wrapping startion - or maybe even a game !
I have fourteen of Bryan's 23" square boards, one being his skateboard park, which need a bit of TLC (but in the state I got it). There are another three boards, all of odd sizes: One car park board, 15" x 30"; one car park board, 22.5" x 30" and finally the base for his "Brummie's Burger" joint, 30" x 22.5". Why the change in boards sizes I don't know
Here's the photographs:
Six boards, a mix of off-centre roads and centred roads.
Another six boards, I think he must have loved his car-parks!
"Brummie's Burgers" base and the skateboard park board, plus more car parks

The single cross-roads board up against the burger joint boards
The disparity between one of the 23" square boards and Brunnie's Burger joint board.

The boards, are all made o the same standard of evrything else Bryan made; I think they;re all 5mm foam with the roas etc, printed onto card (or some quality paper), so they're not that heavy, but thy are a bit bulky. Unfortunately they do need a new home as they don't fit in with my own terrain boards = if anyone want them, please drop me an email (contact detail on my profile page).

That's it for another week, next week's post may not happen as I'm away for a long weekend to the deep South, visiting relatives in Wiltshire, with a quick diversion to Winchester.

Thanks for taking the time to visit and as always your comments are welcomed and appreciated.

  1. Another great save from Bryan's collection Joe, Bryan did like his card scenery, and always added to it, even if it was just painting the edges to tie in with what was printed on it. Do have plans for some city scenery but going to go down a different route to this, hope you find a new home for it all.

    1. Thanks Dave, they're great terrain boards, but I will be looking for new homes for them and I do have an idea who may want them.

  2. Thanks for sharing Joe! More great finds from his collection. Surely there is someone local who take these on & continue to care for them while getting them onto the table!

  3. Definitely will admit that I can see a use for them, should nobody else drop you an email Joe.

The street and car park outside of the strip joint in the film Zombies. Zombies. Zombies. Which I'm trying to recreate-in-miniature (only problem is, Blood Bowl and DBA 3.0 and WW1 aeroplanes and CSS Merrimac-Virginia keep grabbing my attention - Oh, and What A Tanker. I'm too easily distracted! And hence why I've not gotten around to painting anything for Zomtober or Apocalypse Me - Sorry Dave).

Hope you have a good time in Mercia-Wessex

    1. Doh. Spelt it wrong. CSS Merrimack-Virginia. A personal favourite warship, of mine. Although, Merrimac is considered an acceptable spelling in some areas (wait for the button and rivet -counters to tear me to pieces, now)

    2. Thanks Roy, I know the feeling of having many projects running at the same time. I remember having plastic kits of both ships in my youth of which I only have the smokestack, of one, remaining as proof.
You are more than welcome to the boards, I doubt I'm goint to get any more takers.

  4. What a great blast from the past, Joe. I remember seeing those boards in some BatReps of Bryan's many years ago. Super-pleased you've managed to salvage them and get them a second life. I'm sure Vampifan would have wanted his vast collection to be used rather than stored away somewhere.

    1. Thanks Blaxx, Yes, nearly all the boards can be seen in many of Bryan's bat-reps. It's a shame I didn't get the chance to rescue more as there was at least as much still remaining.

  6. Great looking boards, maybe he wasn't planning on total coverage but having isolated pieces on a overall background ( which is what I'm doing) I'm sure you'll find a home for them!

    1. Thanks Iain, I think he originally had the centrally aligned boards but moved to the off-centred boards (like my own) as he produced more. I do wonder if he merely mis-measured for the later boards.

  7. These are marvellous. Are there any local games clubs that could make use of them?

    1. Thanks Brummie, the local club does mostly fantasy, but it is only one of several local options I'mgoing to explore.

  8. Those city boards are superb, I'm glad you were able to save them and hopefully you'll find a suitable home for them. The amount of effort and care Bryan put into his scenery really is a testament to his love of the hobby.

    1. Thanks Matt and apolgies for the late reply (holidays etc.), Bryan's boards are indeed as well built as everything else he did.
I think I may have found a home for them too!

  9. Hi Joe, I guess you're in the sunny south at the mo, I've just been catching up, sounds like August/Sept was a pretty low time for you but recent posts are much more positive which I'm very pleased to see.

The Gladiator games seem to be going well, are the rules by FURT on LAF, I think I've come across something like that but it's an area of the Forum I don't frequent, although I've not frequented most of it until quite recently. I still have Rudis rules that are years old, I remember them as being very complex and only used a few times, did you come across them at all?

Hope you enjoyed your break and keep on posting, I really enjoy catching up, Take care of yourself.
    Cheers

    1. Thanks John, the sunny south turned out to be the wet andmiserable south, but what the hey. It's has been a bit of a summer of discontent, but getting a few gamesin doesn;t half cheer oneself up.
The gladiator games we've been playing are indeed those on LAF by Furt/Frank, on the longest running thread I've ever seen (68 pages, strated in 2013 and still going !)
Holiday break was great and just got back late last bight, hence the lateness of my reply.

    2. I'll have a look at his thread although 68 pages is not so long compared to some I've tried to read. ;)

Pleased you enjoyed your trip, Winchester is somewhere I've never been, but always wanted to see if there was anything from Alfred's time.
