500

500 is not the name of some new Hollywood blockbuster, but it is a fitting title for my 500th post, much better then "Gunfighter #5", which is what the photograph on the right is. "Britt" is the knife-fighter of the gunfighters, using an anachronistic flick-knife (switch-blade to our colonial cousins). The last two gunfighters of the set are proably the most difficult (for me at least) to paint, "Lee" (a bit of a dandy) has a thin striped waistcoart (vest) and "Harry" has a dark brown shirt with a  (almost un-noticeable) thin black check.

And that's it, I wasn;t able to do any more work on the church, as I've been unable to renew my depleted pot of filler, but I will try and get it finished at some point.

 In the meantime, I haven't anything else that I wish to post about , after nearly ten years of blogging.

Over 10,000  comments (half are replies by myself), nearlya quarter of a million vies (mostly bots, I'm guessing), 134 followers, (most of whom don't follow imho) and not a single follower from my first year of blogging still commenting ! Over the years I don't think a single blog that I followed in that first year, still  survives. 

Such is the way, it's been a wild ride, thanks for taking the time to visit.

    Congratulations on the 500 th post Joe, the cowboy looks great and fits in well with the others.
    I've noticed a lot of blogs that have ceased posting over the last couple of years, some have moved on to more instant gratification, like Facebook Twitter, and Tik Tok, while others just seemed to have stopped completely. For me I actually like the interaction on the blogs, and will continue to do so, hoping you do the same

      Thanks Dave, a few years ago I noticed that many blogs petered out after about three years. If it's the 'younger' generations that are blogging then I'm not surprised they aim at instant gratification.
      Whilst the interaction in blogs is gratifying it doesn;t replace face to fce gaming and interaction with like minds on games you play - somethig I've greatly missed these last ten to fifteen years.

      I find it really difficult to take that even given the numerous armies I have acoss many periods, I still got get an opponent from all the folk I know.

      Thanks Douglas, it's been a long haul. I think I entered into blogging not knowing much (and probably still fdon;t) about blogging, but it does seem to be a "I'll comment on your blog if you do so on mine".

    Now all you need is a 500 Mile Post! Thats quite the history of the blogosphere. I didn't hear about it until meeting a fella from Saskatoon named Tim, who had a blog. I finally jumped in in 2011. When did blogging begin? I've seen blogs stalled out & it makes you wonder if they people behind them are ok..or has something happened to them? Some have moved to other platforms such as instagram & patreons. It seems nothing stays the same for long anymore. I will happily continue following those whom I do for as long as they are willing to post...or until I become one of those phantom blogs myself.

      Thanks Iain (even if this was the '500' one). Blogging has been around since at least 2009 and probably before that. Becoming a blogger is like becoming a parent, no one tells you how to do it and there;s no definitive manual.

    Hi Joe, congratulations on your 500th posting, that's a huge achievement, well done. I've just had a quick scan through your more recent posts and the church is looking very nice, lots of ornamentation that will look great once it's painted.

    Sad to be reminded about Bryan but it's good that you have made contact with his brother and I'm sure he appreciates your help in clearing what must be an Aladdin's cave of treasures and rubbish built over such a long time.

    I've not been playing table top games at all this year, one game only I think and I did start to write it up with a view to posting but haven't got very far with it. I have been playing Wings of War and posted some of those games on their forum but that's about it. Strange where the motivation suddenly went. Ho hum.

    It's Mrs V's birthday in December and we are coming up to Northumberland to stay near Lindisfarne, it's years since I've been up the east coast so looking forward to it.

      Hey John, thanks for the comments, it has been a long year and you've played at least one more game than me (0)!
      It could have been a very uncomfotable day meeting Micheal (Bryan's brother), but he was very warm and welcoming with the difficult task we had.
      Enjoy your time in god's country, the NE has a beautiful coastline and the area around Lindisfarne, Bamburgh etc. particularly so. Pletny of castles and WW" fortifications along the coastline too !

      I know about the castles having visited a few but didn't know about the WW fortifications, I'll look those up before I come.

      I'm more interested in the Pele towers, I've always fancied building a model of one, they are a good scale for a table top game, a bit like your church.
      I've seen a couple of them years ago but can't remember which. Do you know of any good ones I should look at?

      Looking at your blog again after so long has roused my enthusiasm and I finished my game report, might even try and post it.

      Existing Pele towers are few andfar between, thr only intact one I know of is a small on in the churchyard in Corbridge. Google would be your friend here.

    That's quite a mile stone Joe, well done :)
    I think you-tube has done a lot of harm to blogs tbh as a lot of blogger headed in that direction, but still a good blog is always worth keeping an eye on :)

      Thanks Frank, you may well be right, You tunr is a medium that I've never really entertained, but #1 son is always using it. Similalrly, his friends tend to only use sites that entertain 40K and the like.

      Thank you Ptr, on my Bogger Dashboard, it automaticall numbers each post(though I don;t often take much notice of it).
      Thank you again for the kind words, I do know and have met with several fellow bloggers over the years, though getting a game in is very difficult.
