Giving up

The new blogger format is proving more challenging than I though tit would, after an hour or so of trying to put a single photograph where I wanted to on the editing screen is proving tedious at best and very time consuming. 've tried the same task using both Firefox and Explorer to do the same task and abandoned all hope of posting. Even using the older form of blogger hasn't been successful. It's all probably down to my lack of techy skill and I'm probably doing soemthing wrong, maybe I need to change setting (or something). The new blogger is not, imho, very user friendly nor (to me at least) intuitive, so I've taken the decision not to struggle through, trying to get a 'proper' post. When I've cslmed down a bit and have done a bit of googling, I may well come back to blogging, but this week is a bust. Sorry again for there being no 'proper' post, sadly it now looks like I'll not get to the 500 posts mark. If you're reading this, then thanks and hopefully this is adieu rather than goodbye.

  1. Sorry to hear you've been having so many problems Joe, I know that feeling with computers all too well, as I spent most of Saturday and Sunday trying to sort out bits on the website.
I'm currently using Google Chrome and other than the first time trying to use the new blogger I've managed to get the pictures in the right place ( 1 st time was much swearing deleting and trying again !) I do hope this is only a brief interlude for you as you would be a great loss from the community

    1. Thansd Dave. I tried Chrome a while ago and my computer doesn't like it. My photographs appear as four or five lines of code (http ?) in the editing iew; I'm unable to caption them ot change where they appear in the text. I've tried in the legacy mode and the new mode on both Explorer and Firefox with the same results.
It turns out I'm not the only one having this problem and the new mode is probably aimed at mobile phone users.

  2. Oh no! Don't give up Joe. I'm using "new" Blogger through MS Edge - slightly annoying but not much more than the "old" blogger.

    1. Thanks MJT, if I could just post photographs, I could put up with all the other rubbish features. r
I may try MS edge, once my depressing vew on the whole thing changes.

  3. Oh no! Don't go Joe!
I love reading all your wonderful posts. Blogger is undoubtedly a right pain in the ar$e. I hate the new format. Why change it? It worked fine as it was. Try this Joe before you give up entirely. Sounds a bit stupid but don't open any blog on google or google chrome. Download Firefox as a browser instead. For some daft reason blogger works better on it than their own system.

    1. Thanks Ray, I've been using Firefox for as long as I can rememeber and for all my blogging years *now coming up to eight !), but alas it's now far too frustrating to even attempt.
      See my answers above too)

  4. I feel your pain. My seems to stuck on showing the HTML code and I sure don't want to write my blog posts like that. Fortunately, for now, I still seem to be able to access the old blogger for my postings.

    1. Thanks Heisler, I've been using the legacy mode but even that is now disfunctional and shows lines of code where my photographs should be. For a non-techy person like me irt's a problem I can;t solve on the new, now non-user friendly blogger.

    1. Thanks Frank, I'm already looking at ways aound having to use Blogger (as it's now beyond my ability to do so).
From a brief foray into google, I'm not the only user having problems.

  7. I'm afraid to say I'll be joining you once the Legacy Button goes, Joe. I can't stand the new interface and think its a massive step backwards. I've emailed Blogger my feed back and will leave the platform if it insists on using just the new interface in the future.

    1. Thanks Blaxx, the legacy mode worked fairly well for me (it's what I've been using) but this week decided to be as problematic as te new interface.
UNless it's sorted then I think a few more bloggers will be 'disappearing'. I'm considering opening a Facebook page (separate from my personal one) to put my photographs on.

also, please read my replies above.

    2. FB is definitely one of the alternatives I'm considering Joe. And as you say above even the Legacy version suddenly seems to be a bit problematic - doubtless to encourage us to use the new lame version!!

    3. Haing had another quick look at the 'post that never was', the problem seems to have sorted itself out, but whether that remains to be seen is another matter.
The post I was going to write for this week will be posted next week - fingers crossed.

  8. As a footnote, I've tried to send some feedback on the new Interface-

    It doesn't work.

PLEASE don't leave us Joe :-(
My computer is deliberately positioned as far away from the window as possible so it doesn't get thrown out because of all the hassle it causes, and the new Blogger interface was yet another example!
I was frustrated that I couldn't work the way I used to, but I found the following works......
Type in your first block of text and then upload and select your first photo (just ONE)......
Then either type your next bit of text or upload and select your next photo...
Repeat for the rest of the post.

Yep, all the photos will be central, and it sounds slow, but because you're not spending any time wrestling with any kind of formatting you'll actually whizz through it (and trust me, we don't need fancy layouts to enjoy your posts!)

    1. Thanks Vagabond, I was indeed going to try your above method, even if just for one post, but Ithink it's soted itself - for the moment at least.

  10. Sorry to hear about your frustrations Joe - and it makes me concerned as I haven't updated my blog in almost 10 months so I'm sure to have the same issues. Hopefully you can get yourself sorted and posting again soon 🙂

  11. Looks like you're going to have a lot of sad followers, myself included if you pack in with Blogger.

I've been reverting to the legacy mode because I struggled with the new version but my last post on the new blogger was fine. I don't understand why it should be ok this time.

There are quite a few things that are much worse than the old version, Stats for one and the overall layout isn't as good, but it is still free.

I'll be sorry to see you go to Facebook if that's what you decide, keep us in the loop.
    Cheers

    1. Thanks Vagabond (see response above too), the legacy mode gave up the same problems when I tried it - I've only ever used it when I could.
The stats thing is a bit annoying too and doesn't seem to add anything imho to what we had before.
Facebook move is currently on hold.

  12. I would certainly miss you if you went! Legacy seems to be working for me,I've only ever posted on my phone and it still seems to work, for the moment, I hope you find a solution!

    1. Thanks Iain, I'll keep trying to post until I run out of options, but using a phone is not one of them as my techy skills and eyesight are just not up to it.
