Sale Bargains

The '3' tag refers to the age of users - I should be OK then
I've done very little in the way hobby related things other than some basing for my Sudanese figures. I finally gave them a spray undercoat having had to wait for a day that was wind, snow and rain free whilst it was light enough to see!
The rest of the time my Oryx, Explorers and various other bits haven't seen a  paintbrush in over two weeks, despite being 95% finished.  I have however been taking advantage of the January sales (when the going gets tough the tough go shopping) and came away with two great buys imo.
The first,  shown left and above, is an Elephant (bit obvious really) that I bought from Wilkos (nee Wilkinson's) for the princely sum of £1,25 which is an absolute bargain imo considering how much a wargame model of a similar size can cost anywhere upwards of £12! (though the cheapest I seen advertised was about £8 iirc from Irregular). It is of course perfect for Safari-ing in Jimland even though not one of the animal encounters listed !
I'm sure I'll find a use for this!
The second bargain I picked up was this 'toy' 3D printer my daughter spotted before Xmas for a whopping £49,99 now reduced to a mere £14.99.
It's a far cry from the current 3D machines that can cost hundreds of pounds for even a suitable entry-level machine.
This one has re-usable compound to make the mould and a 'ink' that solidifies as the material injects into the mould.
The size of what can be moulded is about the size of a 2 inch cube so perfect for small wargame related items!
When I eventually get around to using it I will of course write a post about it!

I may not have been very busy on the painting/modelling front but I did have my first game of 2018 - another adventure into Jimland, which I'll be posting about next time!
In the meantime enjoy the cartoon on the left that I filched from the Interweb.

That's it then for this week, thanks for taking the time to visit, apologies for the briefness and of course, as always, your comments are both welcomed and appreciated!

  1. Elephant is a bargain Joe. The printer could be fun to mess around with. I have joined a facebook group where they are printing various gaming tiles. Pulp Citizens blog has got some he purchased and its fascinating what they are doing with 3D printers there for simple shapes like dungeons floors and walls I can see printing terrain like barriers etc being really useful in the future when they become more affordable.

  2. £1.25 for Nellie's a ridiculous bargain. Just wish I needed an elephant and I'd go buy one myself. The 3D printer looks cool, get on with playing around with it. I wanna see what it does?!?

  3. Once got told a joke about an elephant, over on a gaming forum, and why it has four feet. But since its rude I won't tell it.

Its a decent model for gaming, anyway. And the further posts on the printing thingy and game aar are something to look forward to.

    1. Thanks WA on all fronts, but you pun made me whince a little (and chuckle a bit too if I'm honest).
've just got to decide what to experiment with on the oprinter front, other than a quick practise with the ready-made moulds.

  11. Hi Joe I've read your blog with interest over the years and finally got a Google account so I can follow you and a few other bloggers.
The elephant is a great find, I just bought 2 mammoths at £15:00 each for Christmas very nice but very expensive, I will see if I can get Nellie at my local Wilkinson.
Looking forward to jimland, I've downloaded the rules to have a look at.
    Cheers John

    2. Joe thanks for the offer of help with jimland, I've had a quick scan through the rules and can't find the cards for events, animals etc, can you remember where you found them?
Nellie looks pretty good in real life, I got the last one in our local Wilkinson this afternoon, I did have to take it from a small boy but he soon got over it.;-)
They also had some quite nice prehistoric dinosaurs, so a big thanks for that.
I did get a tub of farm animals and jungle ones as well from b&m about 50% of these are good for scale and the rest will go to my grandson.
      Cheers
