Downtown Office

Front Elevation
This is a new building to my growing metropolis, rapidly put together sometime between January and March this year and hasn't had an airing since.
It's constructed from the usual 5mm foam-board, but has one or two of my own additions made to the original.
It stands about 10" (250mm) tall to the roof parapet (excluding the small roof building), The width of the building is about 14" (350mm) and its greatest depth is about 9" (225mm).
Twilight Streets version.
The building is based on the Twilight Streets 'heroic' set, so no re-scaling of the model had to be done to accommodate the the 28mm figures, that are currently in vogue and that I use.

I restricted the height of the building to four stories, but increased the overall footprint of the building by about 50%.

My version of this building is not rectangular, but is 'L' shaped - just for variety and the fact that I really don't like rectangular buildings !

The two sides are fairly boring, but I did add some features to the rear of the building.

Boring long side of building
Vaguely more interesting rear view.
The rear of the building showing the double service doors (my own addition) and the distinctive 'L' shape.

The roof structure is not included with the model, but is an addition I made.

The shorter of the two side wall s to the building can be seen in the photograph below; a full two windows shorter than the 'long' side wall shown above.

Equally boring 'short' side

Whilst I may not have been active, hobby-wise, in the last two months I am slowly returning to something akin to normality and started another scenario in my ongoing zombie games. I still have to finish it off  some three weeks after starting it !

On a personal note: I'll be trying to pull my  confidence together sufficiently too over the next few days and once more comment upon some of your excellent blogs, which I have been trying earnestly to follow, but alas I doubt I'll be joining any forum discussions for some time to come.

My thought processes for my new project also continues on my other blog, (here), which again was written in the earlier part of this year. Progress on this project has also been excruciatingly slow too.

  1. A Tremendous building. It masks me want to do some GANGSTER wargames, and I know it is versatile enough for any modern setting.

    1. Thanks Clint, a lot of my buildings are purposely aimed for dual purpose gangster/zombie games, although my newly undercoated gangsters have been dormant for too long now.

  2. Excellent looking build Zabadak. I must admit it never bother me about rectangular buildings but I do agree the L shape one looks far better in appearance. Shall look forward to reading about the new scenario and nice to hear your getting your mojo back to almost normal.

  3. Nice building, Sir. I keep meaning to get some made up for some Zombie gaming as well. I like the L-shaped idea. It does indeed make the area more interesting. I'll be looking the steal that idea :)

  4. Wonderful build Zabadak, and I couldn't help but immediately think of "Ghostbusters" when I saw it. Terrific stuff and looking forward to seeing it have its first 'airing'.

    1. Thanks Blaxx, I can't see the Ghpstbuster reference though (it's not a fave film of mine btw), it'll be a while before it'll be used, but it will be !

    2. Joe, its probably more a reference to the old Commodore 64 computer game than anything. But that is precisely the look and style of the graphics for the buildings :-)

    1. Thanks Bob, it's not as good as it should have been and it's simply a shell - no interior detail (again).

  6. Excellent building. Adding the service doors and the roof structure were a nice touch. Having an 'L' shape is a good idea also, just to add variety. It will be great to see in use!

I hope your mojo is coming back, I look forward to updates!

  7. An excellent looking building Joe, the L shape just adds that 3D look to the building.

  8. Hey Mr Z - another great build, and it is good news to read that your mojo tanks are refilling; if they get to overflowing, can you bottle some and send it my way please?

Good luck with the next consultation, btw.

    1. THanks Colin, the "blows" I sufferedearlier this year will take some time to be completely erased. My enthusiasm for the hobby is up and down like a bride's nightie, but is on a high when I can talk about my hobby and alas the opportunity is sadly lacking.

  9. Fantastic results Joe. My buildings always look like someone has let lose a 5 year old with a printer and some paper glue. :)
