The "finds" |
"It looked sharper in the packaging" |
OK, so the finds aren't that great, they're made from soft plastic and cost £1 each , from a local £1-style shop. They're not so bad scale-wise, as can be seen by the second photograph with Sid in attendance for scale.
You have to be very wary when removing them from the packages as they will go very blurry. (Not the fault of the inept cameraman at all, no sirree)
There are two distinct types here (I got one of everything that I could) from the farm sets and the construction set. The farm vehicles are obviously tractors with either different implements on the front or have a trailer being towed.
As can be seen there is a bowser-type trailer and another trailer containing a coiled pipe of sorts. The trailers were the main reason buying the tractors.
Not as blurry as the last one |
Boring tractor with shovel at the front (only slightly blurry) |
Boring tractor with snow-plough type thing (hardly blurry at all) | `` |
So where's the storage problem then, surely these can't take up a lot of space?
Well, no, as can be seen, here,
they hardly fill up one of those vegetable packing crates that I use for my vehicles. M
Maybe so, but this is now the SEVENTH such crate I will be filling !
And it's not just my Zombie stuff that take up space,
Here''s a compilation picture of some of the games that I have (the ones I could get to to photograph)
Many of them are older than my grown -up children and I've no doubt you'll be able to spot titles that you all have and maybe some you've never heard of.
Spot the Zombie board-game ! it's the only part of the whole composite photograph where the games weren't stored above head height !
In addition to games of course I have the usual two or three thousand book (mostly stored in boxes) and toolboxes, drawers and filing cabinets full of figures, like everyone else I'm guessing.
In other news I have finished the game I started aw eek or so ago and will probably have a write-up of the action next week. It turned into a marathon game (about 5-6 hours, split into tow parts and will probably have to recounted in at least two parts too.
Nice find with the tractors. With some suitable weathering and scatter the trailers will look quite good. Certainly with out the tractors they will fit well on a nice rural themed board.
ReplyDeleteSome classic games there. Doom Bloodbowl and Genestealer will by quite popular among collectors for sure.
Your right Simon, it was in fact the trailers that attracted me to them in the first place
DeleteStrangely enough, Bloodbowl is one of my latest additions (I've been playing it on the computer)
Its one game I have always admired the figures for but never actually tried the game. I am not that fussed about sports games If I'm honest though. Plus my brains says what else can the figures be use for to get more use out of them as well.
DeleteI think of Bloodbowl more like a chess variant, the figures are a bonus, but nothting really special.
DeleteGreat find on all the vehicles! I'm sure you'll put them to use.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray, one day maybe I'll get to use them, one day
DeleteVery nice.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jay, nice to hear from you.
DeleteThe vehicles look useful Joe and I'm sure good for people to hide behind. I spotted Mall of Horror (never heard of it or maybe I did can't recall). I reduced my storage problem when I had to move to a smaller space some years ago I don't recommended this solution its traumatic.
ReplyDeleteThanks Robert, yep the sole zombie boardgame I own is Mall of Horror - a game that doesn't use dice except to decide where the zombies are !
DeleteI've actually got a sort of reverse problem toyours, I "gained a room" a year or so ago and have had to empty a cupboard of games into it ! (mostly my RPG books)
If you don't want "King maker" I could help out... :-D
ReplyDeleteWhich copy would you prefer (I have 2), I use the original board because it's bigger, with the later rules (Avalon Hill ?) and map additions.
DeleteThose vehicles look spot on and should be brill with a bit of weathering. Nice to see "Lost Cities" too. Great little card game. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Blax, they would look good if I ever got around to weathering them.
DeleteLost Cities hasn't been played that much really, whilst the game is good the theme has just been bolted on, unlike TIKAL, one of my favourites.
Nice finds Joe. Vehicles are always useful. That's a lot of boardgames, my problem isn't quite that bad, books on the other hand.........
ReplyDeleteThanks Bob, I'm building up quite a colection of cinstruction vehicles. I've been collecting and playing boardgames for years and I've probably got half as many again , but not so bulky !
DeleteAs for books I think at the last count (20+ years ago between the five of us in the house we had about 3000 books ! Just about ever wall was covered in the things. A lot have now gone in storage boxes up in the loft and of course my children's book have gone with them too !
Nice to see you posting again Joe.
ReplyDeleteAnd 1£ each for the tracktors is a bargain :) great find.
Thanks HW, the trqctors at just £1 were too good to pass up on, even if it's a while before they're used.
DeleteThe king of the bargains returns! I'd love to see a snow plough vs zombie game :-) I have a copy of the Tikal game too. It's quite a good little game.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul, I think I'd be happy to see the plough in a game too, with or without snow.
DeleteIt's unfortuanately been too long since I played Tikal(a great game), as it's just a four player game !
Hey, I've got a tractor like that, somewhere :-) ! I don't think I've any trailers, though. It really needs a *lot* of weathering before it would see any action on my gaming table, though - I've never seen a tractor in real life that was remotely clean apart from on a dealer's stall at an agricultural fair.
ReplyDeleteI'm betting we've all picked up something similar. The actual model is probably one of the cheapest (in every sense of the word) that I've ever bought, but I've seen lots of good things done by others with equally bad models. I guess I'll have to have a go too.
DeleteNice vehicles, Joe!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tito, much ppreciated, but i have seen and got a lot better ones !
DeleteThere are some terrific games there and if I had the space would offer to take some. But you know what space is like.
ReplyDeleteI am not convinced about the tractors so bung some paint on them and give us a look then!
Thanks Clint, I am trying to sell two very large games that I haven't shown as they're both nicely packed ! I'm not convined by the Tractors eother tbf, but I will try a quick once-over with some paint when I'm not so ill.
DeleteI like the tractors! As you said, they're good, even if just to block the board. Not sure about the plow in England! :P
ReplyDeleteThanks Mattyoo, we've got ploughs, it's just that they're rarely used I guess. Luckily my game is set in the US (currenlty under 6 feet of snow in some parts )
DeleteI like the tractors and even clean would make a good board addition. do the car showroom model from stoelzels and have a tractor franchise. we have lots of them in nz and it would be something different to fill your board
ReplyDeleteThanks CW for the input, that's a good idea especially for an interesting rural board feature. There are similar outlets on the fringes of the suburbia-rural divide her too.Plus caravas (trailer ?) and camping type places.
DeleteGreat finds Joe. The tractors are real nice.I bought some myself on second hand and
ReplyDeletemy goal with these is to use the tyres and build vehicles of my own.Maybe you will start building some own Joe-vehicles too?
Thanks Ptr, I have actually making one of them "table-worthy", following Clint's comment above about not being convinced by them.
DeleteEven if just the tyres were used I think they'd be Ok. Great for PA and weirdwar/steampunk type games.
