Another Building

My version of the Twilight Building
This week, I have yet another building I've built from the Twilight 'heroic' set, although I don't have a specific purpose for it, but it will be a good generic office/hotel/clinic type of building for downtown Perdition.
Although not the biggest building I intend to make (that will be my next 'box-build' at 6 floors) this is the largest building I've made so far.
It stands at about 12 " tall (30cm), the footprint is about 16" x 11" (50cm x 275cm) making it
I do like to have fairly unique buildings and normally to accomplish this I mess about with photo-shopping the originals.
Sid in the photograph to the right shows just how big a building this is.
The photograph below shows the original twilight building:
Original Twilight building.
This is almost as large as my own building, but I've extended the front each side of the main front ground-floor windows and I've also extended the side for added depth and of course the rear has also been extended to match the front of the building.
The roof of the portico in the original has this glaring black line dividing the two halves of it, I've photo-shopped this out in my version as I couldn't understand what purpose it served (and it looked naff).
Needless to say I don't have any interior detail in this model, nor do I intend to have any !
Here's another couple of views of my take on this model.
Front door portico

Boring side of building

Slightly more interesting rear of building.
Fairly boring Roof-top view
OK then, it's not that much of a build really, the original came on five sheets of A4 whilst mine used a similar number of A3 sheets. Because of the size of the building, I separated the ground floor off and printed a separate ground floor, which made  aligning the front entrance really tricky. I used the original side walls plain ground floor to extend the front and rear walls too.
The water tower you see on the original comes with the set (as does a lot of signage and roof-top furniture and yes there is a pigeon coop !) and probably gave me the idea for my own that features in the photographs.

In other news, I've been cleaning and basing figures in readiness for painting and I've played a game, (shock ! horror !) all of which I'll be posting about in the future.

That's it then for this week except to welcome my latest follower "Spiro Dotgeek" of the very interesting blog Pants of War and finally, as always, your comments are both welcomed and appreciated.

  1. That's quite a size! Your water tower gives a good perspective on its proportions. With the larger buildings like this, do you use the interiors at all? I'm guessing you can't use the inside of the actual model, but do you have floor plans to play on?

    1. It is a big building but it 's also meant for 'downtown'. I really would like to have interna detailis on all my buildings, but the time factor is reallly prohibitive. Floor plans will have to be the answer if I need the action transferred to the inside of the building.

  3. WOW! That is huge and I can see why you kept the water tower for that one. Great stuff. I'm incredibly jealous. Not only because of your excellent build but because you can presumably store such a beast. It looks bigger than my entire playing surface ;-)

    1. Thanks Blaxx, I'm quite lucky that I do have storage space, but as there nno base on it I can us it as storgae too (like Russian dolls). The overhead shot shows it sitting on one of my 2 foot square terrain boards btw.

    1. Thanks Michael, I do like having unique buildings and I also feel that too many wargame buildings are far too small, especially if you intend to use the inside of them.

  5. Fabulous build Joe! This Twilight "heroic" set seems well worth investing in. I do like the way you make yours unique, including this monster.

    1. Thanks Bob, the Twilight buildings are as good as any save that they have no internal details. This is the first of two such buildings, the second is already on the list and I'm 'working' on it.

    1. It's appropriate I guess only for 'downtown' and if your table is big enough

  8. Your upgrade of this building is very well done Joe I think you are catching up to Bryan as a master of paper terrain.

    1. Thanks Robert, but I doubt that I'll ever catch Bryan in his card modelling skills.

  9. This would function very well as a plush hotel that had fallen on a hard times and lost it's high class well paying clients as the surroundings have deteriorated. Let's be honest it is so generic it can be used for a very many types of structure. It really is a great building. I will have to read this again to locate the source of the building.
    Very nice mate.

  10. That's a great building ! As I am already hitting storage issues with buildings, though, I would have to pass on something this big. Mind you, I have been known to change my mind, and it does look very nice........ :)

    1. There is the option of course to make them "flat pack" as "Fat Dragon" suggest, there quite a few turoials on you Tube tackling this very problem

  13. Wow that's huge! It will certainly fit in your urban area, and with your table, it's size won't really take much extra place.
