Painting again !

Well the title tells it all really, I've actually picked my brushes up and started painting figures again, this after a hiatus of nearly a year (due to my then rapidly failing eyesight).
I did manage to paint scenery and model buildings though so I haven't been completely idle, though in the last two months I've done little to nothing hobby-related.
To ease back into the painting habit and my regime of doing something towards my zombie project I started with these EM-4 plastic (and some metal parts) sci-fi troopers. They're cheap and cheerful multi-part figures (£2.55 for 5 !) and will serve as the military forces in my campaign.
I chose these first mostly because they're uniformed, which makes painting a lot easier than my horde of other civilian and zombie figures.
Like many others I have a host of figures in various stages of completion.
In this photo I have zombies, civilians, a hazmat crew and packages of various figures.
Most figures of the figures shown have been undercoated and based, whilst the figures in the bottom right are finished save for their bases.
These were an unexpected gift from a fellow blogger whose name of Bryan must remain anonymous. (He also supplied the Heroclix clown)
The boxes in the back contain a lot of figures mostly from  Black Cat Bases, which I intend for gangster games. On the same shelf to the right of the above are more figures which were again in various stages of completion (some very nearly finished) which I'd been painting before my eyesight gave out.
Also on the back-burner are my small collection of clowns, once again based and undercoated ready to go. Once more several of these were gifted to me from an anonymous benefactor.
They're a mix of Eureka, Black Cat Bases and two or three of whom I can't recall the origin of. I do have an idea how these will be used in my campaign at some point, but not as the "Evil Killer Clowns" we're used to. (As an aside: Is it just me or does anyone else think that there's a strange propensity for clowns to be shown armed with meat cleavers ?)

That's it for another week other than to welcome my latest follower "Chris Stoesen" and as always your comments are both welcomed and appreciated.

  1. I am quite sure at this point, I have no desire to be at a circus when the Zombie Apocalypse strikes.

  2. Great to hear that you're painting again and plenty there to keep you busy. I'm a great fan of Black Cat bases, but sadly all does not seem right there at the moment.

    1. Clowns should definitely not be allowed meat cleavers! Far too scary.

    2. I really do like Black Cat Bases, their service is second to none, I do hope they sort out whatever problems they're having.

Clowns are scary enough without cleavers

  3. I'm delighted to hear that you're painting once more. At least, I hope you're enjoying it.

As for the clowns, if not for "evil killer clowns" then what on earth will you use them for? An unusual troupe of vigilantes/superheroes? Paint them as zombies or as statues? I can't think of much else at the moment...

    1. I've never enjoyed painting figures - I always looked at it as a chore that had to be done (no unpainted figures on the table for me) and I painted uniformed figures in lots of about 100 or so at a time.
I think you've sussed my idea of the clowns too btw.

  4. Clowns with cleavers, it's just wrong! Really glad you are painting again. It says a lot about how your eyes have improved. I am pleased for you.

    1. They'll all get done in time, but the clowns are low on the priority list

  6. Whoever your mystery benefactor is (Bryan, huh?) he must be a pretty generous guy! Anyhooo, I'm glad to see you've been bitten by the painting bug again. Good for you, Joe.

As for clowns, give him a weapon, any weapon, and he's not only a menace but downright dangerous as well. Everyone knows that clowns are evil, which is why I think you'll be using reverse psychology and making them good guys in your campaign!

    1. My mystery benefactor is truly one of the good guys. I think more hours of daylight have helped my enthusiasm improve.

Clowns I still think are scary and evil, but I do have a storyline for them.

  7. Scary Killer Klowns! It is funny how many have cleavers, there is something brutal about a cleaver. Still, just being a clown is really enough of a weapon.

The military figs you have should make a good uniform force. They are a bit sci-fi (the gatling gun is give away) but they do look cool.

    1. There is indeed something brutal about a cleaver and yes the troopers are a bit sci-fim but they'll work just fine.

    1. Thanks Brummie, the troopers will probably be the first to be finished and as for the clowns - love'em or hate'em we all secretly want them.

  16. Clowns or the Undead, I'd rather fight walkers.

You need to get those clowns a little car.
